As an Instructional Technology Coach in Prince William County, you can expect to see me bringing a positive culture and welcoming environment to every classroom and hallway I step into. I will openly encourage staff, faculty, students, and all other community members to come to me for answers and suggestions on how to do things better. As long as you are better today than you were yesterday, you are winning! I want teachers to feel comfortable setting goals, planning and designing lessons, implementing, and reflecting on the use of technology in their teaching. I will do all of these things without showing signs of toxic positivity. I was a Band Director for 14 years so I know the daily stresses that are found in classrooms. I am empathetic to their environments and only want to be a support system and a leader for these teachers as they work through difficult situations.
Not all students learn at the same pace or with the same tools. Teachers know this, and they differentiate instruction based on student needs. I will implement the same philosophy to incorporating technology into the classroom with teachers. Regardless of anyone's ability, gender, ethnicity,
socio-economic status, language, or physical needs, I will make sure that technology is accessible and equitable for all. In my current position as the TSSPEC of Patriot High School, I have accommodated student needs by providing alternative devices, additional software, and given students higher level resources and support when needed.
As an ITC, I will highlight and recognize teachers who make strides in technology. This support and recognition is a vital part of the positive culture that I will bring to the position. Teachers need to know that they are valued and appreciated so I will find a way to shine the light on their classroom and their teaching throughout the school year. As I work with teachers in their classrooms, I will create shareable artifacts that can be sent out to the staff, made available on the school's website for the community to see, and highlighted throughout the building using our current announcement TVs in the hallways and commons areas.
Teachers are happy to see me when they need assistance. They welcome me into their classrooms, and they commonly call on me for an extra set of eyes for any problem they may be having, no matter how insignificant. Sometimes the solution is as simple as pressing a power button whereas other times it requires more intervention from various parties. No matter how small or large the problem, I receive positive feedback from the staff throughout the building and many teachers appreciate the time that I am able to provide. Many times, I am used as a sounding board to work through problems and come up with creative solutions. I am hard-working, dedicated, inspirational, and a source of peace for all.
As a change agent for Prince William County Schools, you can expect to see a positive climate and culture wherever I go. Life is too short to be negative and grumpy. I will use technology as a vehicle to position myself in front of those who need me the most. And, while I am working through technical projects, I hope to leave the end-user with a stronger mindset and a more positive outlook on education, teaching, and technology in the classroom.
My vision as a PWCS ITC is directed by the newly adopted Strategic Plan introduced by Dr. LaTanya McDade, Superintendent for Prince William County Public Schools. Along with my 'soft-skills' of communication, teamwork and respect, flexibility, creativity, leadership, critical thinking, and time management, the 'hard-skills' and direction of the Strategic Plan will set teachers up for success. My desire to continue my own personal continuing education and curiosity to stay up to date with the latest trends will keep me ahead of the curve and give staff the resources they need to do their own best job.
